Time Out- Shopping Guide
2007
An enviable corner site gives eagle eyed customers the chance to assess
two Columbia road’s stock before moving inside to nail a bargain. Up
close the wares don’t disappoint. After all, this stylish store belongs
to the celebrated Tommy Roberts, who owned cult interiors shop
Kleptomania on Carnabby Street in the 1960’s and, later, Tom Tom. He
still appears on Wednesdays, but otherwise his son Keith runs the show,
selling books on art design and pop culture and the best selection of
1950’s and 60’s Danish furniture we’ve seen. Arne Jacobsen Series 7
chairs with signs of wear are £120 each, a pair of immaculate Hans J
Wegner wishbone chairs £900 and a rosewood pedestal desk £850. Vast six
seater, low slung corner sofas with their original leather are around
the £2000 mark. Stock rotates, so on another visit you could expect to
find a wider spread of European and post-war furniture. |
